Costa Humboldt was established in 2012, with the mission of confronting the diverse problems and challenges of Chile’s coastal marine areas, through understanding the complexity of environmental, social and economic fronts.
With a strong conviction of the importance of the natural attributes present in the region’s ecosystems, comes the need to contribute with strategies oriented towards safeguarding the marine and coastal environment, cultural patrimony and livelihoods improvement.
Costa Humboldt is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of Chile’s marine coastal cultural and biological biodiversity.
We are followed by a transdisciplinary and collaborative approach, assuming the multidimensional role needed by the conservation of coastal marine natural and cultural heritage. We look after the preservation of ecosystems and environmental services that provide its habitats, species, and associated cultural wealth, aiming to increase national efforts towards the protection of key areas that are important to the country´s unique biodiversity.
We believe in the implementation of conservation strategies for fragile and diverse environments that embody social and ecological needs, and we do this with a precautionary approach, thus assuring the wellbeing of coastal communities.
