Our efforts are aimed at facilitating the design and implementation of local-level adaptation strategies in response to environmental fluctuations associated with climate change. That is why, together with local communities, NGOs, scientific advisors, and governmental entities, we develop adaptive governance schemes to mitigate the impacts of climate change on marine resource management and traditional lifestyles of coastal communities.
With approaches based on traditional knowledge and monitoring of environmental parameters to evaluate alterations at the local level, we propose training programs and the incorporation of management measures that seek to overcome unfavorable and fluctuating environmental conditions, in order to reduce the potential effects that climate change could bring to the coastal marine areas of our country. Thus, our line of action in the face of climate change is integrated transversally in the programs of Fishing Management, Spatial Planning and Ecosystem Management, ensuring adaptability as a crucial factor in each one of them.
